Dadi'r Kissa (Granny's Tale) - video series for Rohingya children

Dadi'r Kissa (Granny’s Tale) is an exciting new video series in Rohingya language aimed at the children between the ages of 6 to 12 years old.

Produced by BBC Media Action, the series is a mix of live-action and animation.

A group of children meet at Granny’s house to hear stories based on myths. They include a girl who solves difficult riddles, a fox who goes to school, and a flying horse.

While the stories are entertaining, they also have important messages about issues such as good hygiene and the importance of education for girls.  

Each video is between 6 to 10 minutes long and can be played in places where people gather such as women-friendly spaces, child-friendly spaces as well as nutrition and health centres.

The videos are available in both high and low-resolution. Low-resolution videos are smaller in size than high-resolution videos. High-resolution videos are more suitable for viewing in large screens such as projectors, television. Low-resolution videos are more suitable for mobile viewing.

• Alemdar Nuri (Nuri the scholar) (High resolution/Low resolution) - Once upon a time there was a great wise man named Azimullah. He made sure his daughter Nuri had an unparalleled education. One day the king invited all those who were wise to a special meeting. Nuri was sent there by her father and had to face many difficult tests. Using her intellect, Nuri was able to solve all the problems. The king was impressed with Nuri’s knowledge and rewarded her with the most prestigious job in the kingdom: to write a ‘Knowledge Book’. How Nuri became so knowledgeable?
• ‘Hiyal adde koeror khet hola’ (The fox and the crocodile go farming) (High resolution/Low resolution) - Once upon a time, there was a river in the middle of a forest where a fox and a crocodile lived. The crocodile always tried to fool the fox. One day the crocodile suggested to the fox that they grow crops together and share the harvest equally. The crocodile tried to fool the fox three times— they cultivated potatoes, rice, and sugarcane. But the crocodile never managed to fool the fox because the fox knows something! What does the fox know?
• ‘Machir deshot shorbonash’ (Crisis in the kingdom of flies) (High resolution/Low resolution) -  Once upon a time, food was running out in the kingdom of the flies. The kingdom, where flies used to joyfully roam around, was facing a food crisis- a headache for all the flies. The queen of the flies was worried and was also starving. She asked for an investigation to find out the cause. The investigation found that the source of the food was becoming extinct. Humans, on which the flies depended, had found ways to force the flies and their queen to move elsewhere. How did the humans create a crisis for the flies?
• ‘Murar oshukh’ (Disease in the forest) (High resolution/Low resolution) -  Once upon a time there was a big forest, home to tigers, bears, elephants, buffaloes, hawks, tortoises, raccoons, foxes, monkeys, eagles and many other animals and birds. One day a disease called diarrhoea spread throughout the forest. All the birds and animals were affected by the epidemic. Even the tiger, the queen of the forest, was not spared. Because her poo was frequent and runny the queen tiger became so thin she looked like a cat. Even her roar became softer than a cat's meow! But one animal was spared. He roamed around the forest with joy. The monkey of that forest! When the tiger asked him his secret, the monkey said he followed certain rules. What are those rules?
• 'Un chena bhoot adde Roopban' (The mysterious ghost and Roopban) (High resolution/Low resolution) - Once upon a time, there was a farmer in a village who had a very intelligent daughter named Roopbaan. Everyone in the village loved and respected her because she had the perfect combination of wisdom and extraordinary skills. She could understand the language of animals! Suddenly, ghosts started disturbing the villagers who ran to Roopbaan for help. Using her sharp intellect, Roopbaan solved the problem.
• ‘Ba’dur rajar Fua’ (The brave prince) (High resolution/Low resolution) -  Long ago, in the kingdom of Kaala Pahar, lived a brave hero named Selim Bahadur. One day, the queen asked Selim to go on a mission to save his countrymen from a deadly disease. At one stage of his thrilling adventure, Selim reached the kingdom of Palong. He discovered that a dangerous monster had imprisoned the princess of the kingdom of Palong. Selim managed to capture the monster and rescue the princess. This makes the king of Palong so happy that he hands over the valuable formula for fighting the deadly disease. In this story, we will find out the secret formula.
